Barlett and Klees Update Training

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Certified public accountants Rich Barlett and Mike Klees, partners in the accounting and business development firm of Lewis Barlett Klees, PC, attended a conference recently sponsored by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Hershey, Pa. They both attended a workshop titled "Surgent McCoy's Handbook for Mastering Basis, Distributions, and Loss Limitation Issues for S Corporations, LLCs and Partnerships," which provided practical applications of basis and distribution concepts when dealing with flow-through business entitties. It also covered the most recent tax legislation.

Klees, who manages the firm's Bloomsburg office, also attended a day-long session on "Ratio Analysis Update: A Hands-on Approach to Making Effective Use of Financial Statement Information." Among other things, attendees learned to use a broad range of financial statement analysis tools to make decisions about companies in case studies.

Barlett, who manages the Lewisburg office, attended a workshop on "Detecting Misstatements: Integrating SAS 99 and the Risk Assessment Standards." This dealt with integrating an audit approach for assessing and responding to risks, and learning to recognize caution signals and improve documentation quality.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2008, Lewis Barlett Klees was awarded the Small Business Award of the Year by the Central PA Chamber of Commerce. The company provides auditing, accounting, tax and management advisory services to government, not-for-rofit agencies and private businesses, in addition to tax preparation for individuals.
